The Role
We are seeking a multi-talented Vehicle Converter & Fleet Assistant to join our workshop team. This is a unique, hands-on role that sits at the intersection of craftsmanship and logistics. You will be responsible for helping build and maintain our premium fleet of splitter vans, ensuring every vehicle meets our high standards for safety, comfort, and tour-readiness.
This role is perfect for someone with a background or passion for carpentry, van conversions, or vehicle maintenance plus an enthusiasm for providing excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Vehicle Conversion & Maintenance
- Assisting in the full conversion process of standard vans into high-spec splitter vans (adding seating, bunks, entertainment systems, and storage).
- Performing basic carpentry and lining work (insulation, ply-lining, and floor installation).
- Installing and troubleshooting 12v electrical systems (lighting, USB points, and power inverters).
- Conducting minor mechanical checks and aesthetic repairs between rentals.
Fleet Operations:
- Preparing vehicles for hire, ensuring they are spotlessly clean and fully stocked with necessary equipment.
- Conducting pre and post rental inspections to identify any damage or maintenance requirements.
- Moving vehicles between locations or to external mechanics/body shops as required.
- Managing inventory of conversion materials and workshop supplies.
General Fleet & Operational Support:
- Assisting the Fleet Manager with administrative tasks and scheduling.
- Assisting in the day to day running of the company including meeting customers
- Act as a point of contact for some customer enquiries via phone, email, and in-person.
- Provide expert advice on van hire options, pricing, and availability to suit touring needs.
- Maintain a high standard of service to build long-term relationships with clients.
- Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised workshop and yard.
Requirements
- Experience: Previous experience in vehicle conversions, carpentry, or automotive mechanics is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficient with power tools and hand tools. Knowledge of 12v electrics is a significant plus.
- Driving License: A full, clean UK driving license is essential (must be over 25 for insurance purposes).
- Attention to Detail: A "perfectionist" mindset when it comes to finishing and upholstery.
- Flexibility: A proactive attitude and the ability to pivot between manual workshop tasks and logistical fleet duties.
- Passion: An interest in the music/touring industry is a bonus!

Role Overview
As a member of the BandVanHire team, you will be the backbone of our daily operations. This role is designed for a dedicated professional who can manage the full lifecycle of vehicle rentals—from the first customer enquiry to the final return inspection. You will operate with high levels of autonomy, ensuring our fleet is road-ready and our clients (bands and event crews) receive a seamless experience.
This is a dynamic role involving a combination of vehicle preparation, customer relations, deliveries & collections and operational support. Given the nature of the music industry flexibility is key as hours can vary and weekend work is included.
Key Responsibilities -
Vehicle Standards & Fleet Management
- Prepare all vans for hire, ensuring they are clean, fuelled, and safety-checked.
- Valet vehicles in between hires
- Complete basic vehicle maintenance such as checking tyres, brakes, oil, screenwash etc
- Conduct rigorous vehicle inspections before and after each hire period.
- Identify and report any damage or mechanical faults immediately.
- Coordinate and track essential maintenance, including servicing, MOTs, and repairs.
Administration & Logistics
- Maintain accurate records within the digital booking and management systems.
- Coordinate the logistics of vehicle collections, returns, and deliveries or pick-ups.
Customer Experience & Sales
- Act as a point of contact for some customer enquiries via phone, email, and in-person.
- Check customers in and out of rental vehicles.
- Provide expert advice on van hire options, pricing, and availability to suit touring needs.
- Handle the booking process where needed, including amendments and cancellations.
- Maintain a high standard of service to build long-term relationships with clients.
Skills & Experience
Essential Requirements
- Driving Licence: A full, clean UK driving license held for a minimum of 2 years. Age 23+
- Experience driving large vans a bonus.
- Communication: Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Independence: Proven ability to work without direct supervision and take initiative.
- Organisation: Strong time management skills with an eye for detail.
- Technical: Proficient in basic IT and comfortable learning booking software.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience in vehicle rental or vehicle fleets.
- A genuine interest in the music industry, bands, or live events.
- Basic mechanical knowledge or an interest in vehicle upkeep.
